Could you ever see yourself sharing similar messages that your Letter Writer did? Why or why not? How would you share them?
The Letter writers were very educated, holy people who had to face a lot of problems, opposition, and temptations. They were able to overcome them with resilience, something very difficult to do. I feel that once I am older, have experienced more and am wiser, I can definitely see myself having to face resilience when I receive opposition to my faith. It probably won't be to the great extent that the Letter Writers experienced, but it is a possibility. I always try to be optimistic and think how would a negative situation be beneficial for the future. That is something that can come with resilience; seeing a difficult time as a pathway to something great. I would probably share my messages through conversations or write them in books, rather than social media because I feel that social media is very prone to hate and threats. I would also want to be taken seriously, and I feel that social media is very casual about something that would be very important.
What were some new things that you learned from the Marian apparition projects presented in class (be specific)?
Mary called a lot of people to honor her and her son while focusing on the importance of repentance and comforting others with love. The Marian appearance of Our Lady of Guadalupe centered around the building of a church in Mary's honor where she could console suffering children. In the appearance of Our Lady of Fatima, mary asked for sinners to start making amendments and to have a devotion to herself. Some of these might seem like she is asking things for herself, but in reality, they are so she can reach out to others who are suffering or sinning. To add, Mary's appearances required a lot of faith, and resilience from the person(s) she appeared too. There will always be opposition, but with perennial trust and hope, these people can do what they were called to do by Mother Mary.
How did you see resilience at work within the Marian apparition that you researched?
Like I wrote before, the people she appeared to needed resilience to fulfill the duty that Mary brought upon them. Resilience was vital for Our Lady of Akita, as she experienced real physical pain when cuts on her hand appeared. She had to keep her faith and continue with her life after being cured of deafness but then losing her hearing once again. It would be very tempting to give up, ignore, or leave your faith but all these people Mary appeared to were able to overcome those temptations. It also was a lot of work to fulfill Mary's wishes like building churches. These Marian apparitions would receive, and still, do a lot of criticism and skepticism from others. People like the witnesses, bishops, and others involved had to defend themselves and Mary's appearances because they were also in opposition. Resilience was crucial for the sharing of Mary's appearance and messages.
Do you see yourself as being resilient? Why or why not?
I think in some situations, it is very difficult to be resilient, but in the end, all of us must have the resilience to be in the positions we are in today. School for me requires a lot of resilience, and sometimes I don't have any motivation, especially after not doing well. I do think that I have been resilience in many situations of my life, but it takes a lot of willpower and mental strength. Also in sports, resilience is something I could work on. Besides the mental resilience it takes, physically, athletes must be able to build endurance and stamina. Every area of life requires resilience if you want to succeed. I hope to in the future become more resilient with difficult life situations, and I know I can with the more faith I have in myself and in God.
