Blog Post #4: Prayer

  1. What are new things that you learned about prayer from this unit? Be specific.

This unit I learned all about the different prayers and how to pray. Different types of prayers include lectio divina (divine reading), singing, dancing, reflection and more. Prayer is a way of communication with God and can help grow you relationship with him. Confession, Thanksgiving, and Intentions are all part of praying. Praying is important to be personal so you can reflect and improve on yourself.  It can also be a form of meditation which can calm your nerves and make you focus on what you want to do.
  2. Can you see yourself implementing any new prayer practices?

I personally think I need to mediate more because a lot of times I need to focus, and I can only focus if I am calm. I also want to do more Lectio divina, because I think it is important to understand the events of the Bible. I feel that listening to music and singing can relieve a lot of stress and I feel that a lot of people can benefit from it. Meditation with your family or friends can also be beneficial to improve relationships and friendships. I think it can also be a great way to relive anxiety and depression for athletes, or people in general who need more support with feeling relaxed. Prayer can be manifested through many things if someone has the right intentions and it re enforce their relationship with God. It can also help your relationships at home with your loved ones.

What were the main messages you got from the movie The Case for Christ?

Trust, Faith and Prayer are very important in Christianity, and without it is very hard to maintain a good relationship with God. Lee tried to change Leslie's mind so much that it drove their relationship away. Leslie prayed a lot for Lee to change and see the truth, but Lee also had to have faith and trust to be able to open his eyes to Christianity. In relationships, patience and love plays a major role for Leslie and Lee, without it they would have probably separated and Lee would have never changed. Jesus reveals himself in different ways in the movie and you can't see him if your mind is not open. In the end Faith conquers all and people can try to change you mind but you must have faith.

  1. What new things did you take away about yourself from this unit, perhaps from Lectio Divina, the Gratitude class, the meditation, or the movie
  2. I became so aware of all the things I am grateful for. It is hard to realize all the things we have like safety, comfort, love, education, and family. I also tried to meditate more and that calmed my nerves before water polo games, tests, and moments of stress. Life can through a lot at you, but you must have hope and realize the good things in your life and keep a positive energy. Natural Disasters are usually not in our control, and especially this last month our Earth has been suffering from it so much. Hope and Prayer is what we must do if we can't help in other ways. Keeping your head up during hard times is very important in Life.
  3. I am so grateful for my dogs Enzo and Velvet and I pray for their health and safety everyday.
