Blog Post #1: Who is Jesus to me?
1. Prior to this class, what did you already know about Jesus and where did this information come from?
Most of my knowledge on Jesus I gained from my confirmation classes and my religion class last year with Mr. Dilag. I learned about how Jesus was a divine, sinless human, essentially God as a human. God sent him to teach people how to moral life and ended up sacrificing himself for our sins. I know that Jesus performed many miracles that included healing people with lepers, curing blindness and many more. I also learned how Mary and Jesus where the only two sinless humans and how his real birth isn't on December 25th. Jesus's was sent to us so we could learn about Heaven, everlasting life, and the sins we shouldn't commit. He died so we could be forgiven by confessing our sins.
2.What new insights did you gain about Jesus from this unit? How does this change or confirm what you already thought? Be specific.
I became aware of all the names he is referred to as; Lamb of God, Savior, Redeemer, Christ, Lord, Son of God etc. I also got confirmation about if Jesus was considered a historical figure to non Christians. I am now aware of the meanings of The Trinity and each specific title. The Father, The Son and The Holy Spirit are all different representations and forms of Jesus, just like how gas, liquid, and solid are all different forms of H20. By understanding how to interpret Jesus as three different roles changed my view on him and how he can be all three at once. The Father symbolizes the protection and father figure Jesus is. The Holy Spirit can be interpreted as the spirit he lives as in heaven now and The Son is when he came down to Earth as God's son.
3. Do you feel that you see Jesus as more of a spiritual figure, a historical figure, and/or both? Why?
I see Jesus both as a historical figure and spiritual figure, but I feel that his spiritual figure is more impactful and significant in my life. I acknowledge that he is seen as to others as a person who introduced Christianity. However, in my eyes he is the divine human who God sent to deliver his message and strengthen our relationship with him. Jesus not only impacted the lives of who he directly taught, but the lives of millions of people hundreds of years later. He did much more than introduce a religion or a way of living, but he introduced the connection we can have with our God. He showed us why we should live morally and help others, not live a life full of sin and evil.
4. How would you describe your relationship with Jesus?
I view my relationship with Jesus as a combined relationship with God. I feel that every time I sin, our relationship weakens but I know to ask for forgiveness and try to not sin again. I feel that God and Jesus represent my third parent, someone I love, trust, talk to and ask for guidance. I notice how much faith it takes to have a relationship with Jesus and sometimes I may doubt it, but I seem to overcome the doubt every time and my faith strengthens. Life always challenges your bonds with friends and family, and overcoming them is what matters. My relationship with Jesus is one I value along with my family and I hope it never breaks.
This shows Jesus as he teaches about God to the people. His teachings brought in a lot of people and impacted millions of people over hundreds of years and still does today.
