Blog Post #3: The 4 Gospel Writers
Each Gospel Writer has different symbols, but all have wings. Each Gospel writer wrote in Greek to different audiences. Some of the writers have more direct relationships with Jesus than others like John. John the Apostle was a 1st hand account because he had a direct relationship with Jesus, he was an Apostle. John was known as the “beloved disciple.” Mark wrote to the Jews during late 60s and 70s, his symbol was the winged lion. Matthew wrote to the Jews during the 80-90 AD and his symbol was an angel. Luke wrote t the early gentiles/church in during 90 -110 AD, and his symbol was a winged ox/bull. John wrote to nonbelievers and believers of the church during 90- 100 AD, his symbol was the rising eagle.
All four Gospels basically recount the same story just with different details. All four have two people who are on either side of Jesus. Every story, Jesus has significant last words before he dies. Jesus also asks for God’s forgiveness and help. Mark is not very detailed unlike Matthew and John who are both first hand accounts. Mark and Matthew refer to the two men as revolutionaries while Luke refers them as criminals.
All are different as they mention different ending. Matthew mentions the resurrection of saints, and John mentions the breaking of legs and distribution of Jesus’s cloth. They all mention different ways Jesus talked to God before his death and the different things the two men did. According to Mark Jesus says “Eloi Eloi” and according to Luke he says,”Father in your hands I commend my spirit...” Each is detailed differently because of their different accounts, it is understandable that Mark and Luke were both less detailed since they were second hand accounts. Matthew mentions how the two men were abusing Jesus, but Luke refers to one as good an one bad.
I think I would prefer to read a first hand account like John or Matthew because i would want to read a more descriptive and detailed reading. I also would want to know the specifics of Jesus life and how he was as a divine human. I also know that John and Luke wrote before the others which possibly makes theirs more accurate and specific. I trust all four Gospels, but to get the most you I would say to choose the best choice, John the Apostle. John was a close follower of Jesus and I feel that he would recount the event well. All are trustworthy and basically tell the same story.
